Ten Years On

It doesn’t seem that long ago, that we went to Paris for a weekend and came home two weeks later my left hand sparkling, both sporting big wide smiles and bubbly drinks.

It doesn’t seem that long ago that I tried on all those ivory dresses and weeks later bought the very first one I had tried.

It doesn’t seem that long ago since you called me in to listen to this song or that, to see if it was the right one to be our first.

It doesn’t seem that long ago that we agonised over who would sit where on our big day.

It’s been ten years.

Ten years since the hairs stood up on the back of my neck when I saw you standing with your back to me at the other end of the church, our family and friends wishing us well as I walked towards you on my dad’s arm.

Ten years since we held hands more tightly than ever before and said the words that we wrote together, the ones that matter.

Ten years since we danced the night away with all the people that we love.

Ten years since the start of this chapter of us, our happily ever after.

Many more before then, and so many more to come.

We danced our first dance as husband and wife that night to “Let there be Love”.

Who knew how prophetic those words would be?

There has been wind, rain has been more than occasional even in the sunny south east. I haven’t checked on the oysters, I presume they’re still where they should be. The chili con carne has been plentiful, your specialty, the champagne replaced with prosecco when necessary. The birds do appear to be in the trees singing away, and we’ve made three more to bless me when I sneeze.

We have a world of cuckoos, we’re up with the lark, and as for the dove, it’s in the shower beside the shampoo.

Ten years on, apt as ever, if in a different way.

Happy 10th Wedding Anniversary to us x

“Let There Be Love”

Let there be you,
Let there be me.
Let there be oysters
Under the sea.

Let there be wind,
An occasional rain.
Chile con carne,
Sparkling champagne

Let there be birds
To sing in the trees,
Someone to bless me
Whenever I sneeze.

Let there be cuckoos,
A lark and a dove,
But first of all, please
Let there be love.

[Interlude]

Let there be cuckoos,
A lark and a dove,
But first of all, please
Let there be love…

Hmmm umm…love
Hmmm umm…love

Let there be love.
