We all need a laugh so on this month’s Netflix update I thought I’d look at some comedies that I’ve noticed are streaming on Netflix, there are some classics there that I had missed and that I’ve added to my “to watch” list.
Sometimes you need silly comedy, and that’s what Third Rock from the Sun delivers, it’s light, oh so light. A spaceship of aliens who look exactly like us and have a complete lack of understanding of how life on Earth works bumble along in everyday life. It’s silly (did I mention that?) but it makes me laugh.
Black Books is the kind of comedy that you’d expect students to watch. It’s set in a bookshop and stars Dylan Moran as the heavy drinking bookshop owner, and Bill Bailey as his chirpy assistant. It’s random, it’s different, it’s funny, and sometimes dark. Worth checking out.
The original Office, starring Ricky Gervais, none of your US version stuff (although that’s there too). It’s cringe inducing, but it’s funny. Maybe don’t watch it after a bad day in the office though. (But do check out the David Brent dance).
A comedy series set in a basement office featuring two geeks who fix computers and their boss doesn’t sound like a formula for fun, but add Graham Linehan’s writing and Chris O’Dowd and you’ve got comedy gold. It’s funny, it’s surreal (bras bursting into flames) it’s silly, I love it.
Grace and Frankie is a new Netflix Original Series which is available from 8 May. Starring Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda as two women whose husbands have announced that they are gay and getting married to each other. The women, who were never friends begin to bond against the odds. The show also stars a personal favourite of mine Martin Sheen.
I binged on Kimmy and now I miss her sunny disposition and brightly coloured wardrobe. She’s fresh and funny and the theme tune is soo catchy, and while the backstory (woman freed from 15 years in an underground bunker and moves to New York) sounds dark the series is far from it. Also, Jill of Properfud, Kate (who Takes 5) and I made shows of ourselves at the recent Irish Parenting Blog Awards night singing and dancing to it so the song will now forever make me smile 🙂
Disclosure: I am a member of the Netflix Stream Team and received a Netflix subscription and an Apple TV in return for posting Netflix updates and reviews, however, all opinions are my own, and I already had a personal subscription before joining the Stream Team.
